Gentle HIIP workout
Feb 12, 2020Ready to get your Heart Pumping?
It's National Heart Health Month here in the US so I wanted to share this high intensity Pilates inspired cardio workout with you to celebrate.
Heart health is an important subject that I encourage all women to take seriously.
While heart disease is primarily thought of as something that affects men it's actually the #1 killer of women.
1 in 3 women's death are caused by a form of heart disease!
What's also troubling is that women are less likely to call for help when experiencing a heart attack, because women often experience symptoms much differently than men do (and most portrayals of heart attacks highlight the symptoms men experience).
So many women don't actually realize they're having a heart attack!
Women's symptoms of heart attacks can include:
- neck, jaw, upper back, and abdominal pain or discomfort
- fatigue
- pain in one or both arms
- nausea/vomiting
- dizziness/feeling lightheaded
So please make sure you're aware of these silent heart attack symptoms!
Also, it's important for women to realize how to keep their heart and circulatory system healthy.
These are some easy lifestyle improvements you can make to help you keep your heart happy - you don't need to completely overhaul your life or break the bank to do so!
Steps to prevent heart disease include:
- stay active (with workouts you enjoy and lots of general physical activity)
- manage stress (breathwork, exercise, and meditation can all help, along with a personalized approach to stress management)
- eat healthy
- manage weight
- control high blood pressure and blood sugar
So let's celebrate your most active muscle with this Gentle High Intensity Interval Pilates workout.
While there are some jumps in this workout, I offer modifications if you need to work with no or low impact.
This workout is a favorite in my Blessful Body Pilates Studio.
Cardio Pilates workouts are included at least once a week in the daily workout calendar to make sure that members are working all their important muscles - including their hearts!
Let me know how this workout goes and what your other favorite forms of cardio exercise are in the comments below!
Much love,
Ky
